My grandfather just gave me this motor serial #6802R-E16356. It sat in his garage untouched for 20 years with a garbage bag over it. This motor looks to be in mint condition. (ill get some pics soon) he said it ran like a champ before he stopped using it. When he put it away he drained all of the fuel and put some oil in the cylinders.
When i got it i pulled it over a couple times and it pulls over just fine. Ive read that the water pump impeller should be replaced especially if its been 20 years, but i wanted to first see if i can get it running before i replace the water pump. What is the fuel ratio for this motor, and what is the little dial on the front with the numbers for, it says low speed mixture on it. I have 2 fuel tanks that were made for this engine, they are the metal cans one is brand new from 20 years ago, however i dont have the fuel lines and i have no idea what fittings it takes, the engine and the gas can both have the same connectors.
I was looking for an owners manual and i believe that this one is the correct one, correct me if im wrong. Ive also come to the conclusion that this is the impeller. You dont want it breaking up and blocking the cooling system. Fuel mix for a '68 model is 50:1 that is near enough 1 pint in 6 gallons but more precisely 2.56 fluid ounces per US gallon, 3.20 fluid ouncs per UK Imperial gallon 20 mls per litre The dial on the front is the slow running mixture adjustment.
If the needle has been correctly adjusted it should simply be set to the middle of its range. Any dealer should be able to provide you with a fuel line CW priming bulb to fit. Genuine OMC fittings probably advisable as sometimes people seem to have trouble caused by others.

The fuel ratio is 50:1, 1 pint of oil to 6 gallons of gas, the dial is for setting the low speed needle valve, rich/lean fuel mixture.

You can by replacement fuel lines that are complete, they have fuel connectors and a primer bulb already attached. You should also get the OEM service manual, it will have all the information you need to do maintaince on your engine. That is the correct impeller for your engine. There are some other things you need to check also, compressio, spark and you will probably have to overhaul your carb.
